Woman having coffee and waiting for message response
When nothing comes back, you start to fill in the gaps. Sent. No reply. And that somehow feels worse.

Ava glanced at her phone.

“Delivered,” she said.

Sienna looked up. “Congratulations.”

“I haven’t said anything yet.”

“You’ve *sent* something.”

Ava frowned slightly.

“It was just a reply.”

Sienna nodded. “They always are.”

Ava turned the phone in her hand.

No dots.

No “seen.”

Just… delivered.

“This part is fine,” Ava said.

Sienna smiled. “This part is peaceful.”

A pause.

Ava took a sip of her coffee.

“It could stay like this.”

“It won’t.”

“I know.”

Silence.

Ava checked her phone again.

Still nothing.

“I don’t know what I want to happen,” she admitted.

Sienna tilted her head. “That’s new.”

Ava shrugged.

“If they reply too quickly, it feels like they were waiting.”

“And if they don’t?”

“It feels like I am.”

Sienna considered that.

“Timing is a difficult personality trait.”

Ava huffed a soft laugh.

“That’s unfair.”

“It’s accurate.”

A pause.

Ava placed her phone face down on the table.

“I’m not watching it.”

Sienna nodded.

“Of course you’re not.”

Ava reached for her coffee.

Took a sip.

Paused.

Then… quietly…

she flipped the phone back over.

Still:

**Delivered.**

Ava exhaled.

“…okay,” she said.

Sienna smiled.

“Chill… ”

Ava’s waiting for a reply to her message, feeling the tension of no response. She’s unsure whether a quick reply means they were eager or if no reply means she’s left hanging. Sienna helps her see the irony of timing in communication while Ava just wants to avoid watching her phone.
