Sienna was trying to lift her friend’s mood. Another relationship that had seemed promising had quietly lost its sparkle.

Her balcony had become their refuge over the years — part observatory, part therapy office.

Wine helped.

“Ava,” Sienna said, handing her a glass. “What were you thinking?”

“I thought he was different.”

“He wasn’t.”

Sienna nodded.

“Exactly.”

Sienna leaned back against the railing, thinking.

“The weather?”

“Yes,” Sienna said, warming to the idea. “One minute it’s sunshine. Next minute… thunderstorms, cold fronts, electrical storms. Completely unpredictable.”

Ava laughed despite herself.

“You might be onto something.”

Sienna opened her Notes app.

“I want to make it official.”

Ava listened.

“Like… a field guide to the weather patterns of modern love.”

Ava finished her wine and stood.

“I’m going home to process all this.”

“Coffee next week?” Sienna asked.

Ava hugged her and headed for the stairs.

Sienna glanced up at the sky.

“No rain.”
