Ava was halfway through explaining when Sienna reached for her phone.

“You know what’s funny?”

Ava looked up.

“What?”

“You’ve categorised half the men in this city…”

Sienna paused.

“But you’ve never analysed one of mine.”

Ava grinned.

“Okay… hand over the phone.”

Sienna raised an eyebrow.

“Let’s start with…?”

Ava opened the Notes app.

Today’s entry: **The Architect.**

“Why him?” Sienna asked.

Ava shrugged.

“He’s still circling, right?”

Sienna laughed.

“Careful. He might be a Midnight Edition.”

“Not a chance,” Ava said.

They considered the evidence.

He was intelligent.

Thoughtful.

Emotionally articulate.

“He’s too constructed,” Sienna said.

“He talks about growth like a keynote speaker.” 

Sienna kept going.

“Compatibility, life plans… everything is a blueprint.”

“Impressive résumé,” Ava observed.

“Exactly,” Sienna nodded.

“But it’s all theoretical.”

She paused.

“Emotionally detached.”

Ava tilted her head.

“So what’s the flaw?”

Sienna thought about it.

“He curates his vulnerability.”

Ava blinked.

“That’s… very specific.”

Sienna sighed.

“Everything is planned… except emotional risk.”

“He is structurally decorative,” Ava inquired.

“Something like that.” 

Sienna took a breath.

“It kept nudging the connection sideways.”

“But he’s very self-aware,” Ava said.

Sienna nodded.

“Painfully.”

“It’s like dating a podcast.”

Ava burst out laughing.

“He dazzled you with insight,” Ava said.

“Empty rhetoric,” Sienna replied.

Ava considered that.

“He’s load-bearing in theory.”

“Not in practice,” Sienna said.

They sat with that for a moment.

Sienna looked out across the balcony.

Then she laughed softly.

“You know what he feels like?”

Ava raised an eyebrow.

“What?”

“A crosswind.”

Ava smiled.

“So the taxonomy works for both of us.”

“Unfortunately,” Sienna said.

“He’s definitely not Midnight Edition.”

Ava smiled.

“The Almost?”

Sienna laughed.

Ava tapped the screen.

“You’re using your own system now.”

Sienna replied:

“Apparently.”
